Our goal is to make your vacation feel effortless—from the moment you arrive to the moment you head home. Unlike most cottage rentals that ask you to bring everything but the kitchen sink, we’ve stocked Blue Heron Hideaway with nearly all the essentials: towels, bedding, pillows, paper products, kitchen basics, 30+ spices and more.

As many guests say, I’m the “hostess with the mostest” because I try to think of everything, so your only job is to pack your personal items, favourite comforts, and a bit of food. No stress. No overstuffed car. No mountain of laundry when you get home. Just a relaxing, well-equipped escape.

The open-concept living, dining, and kitchen space is bright and inviting, centered around a soaring stone fireplace and massive windows that frame the lake. The fully equipped kitchen features full-size appliances, cookware, and everything you need to prepare and present elevated family feasts or cozy dinners for two.

Guests have full, private access to the entire cabin and all outdoor spaces between the driveway and the lake—including the fire pit, yard, beach area, private dock, deck, and all provided amenities.

• Surrounded by charming small towns (like Northbrook and Sharbot Lake) offering unique events, local shops, great restaurants, and all the essentials you may need during your stay.
• Bon Echo Provincial Park is just 35 minutes away and is an excellent spot for additional hiking and exploration. Mazinaw Rock with its hieroglyphics is a must see!
• City of Kingston Downtown is less than an 1.5 hr drive with so much to do, we can’t possibly list it all! History, art, scenery, unique restaurants, special events and concerts— it has it ALL!

Sleeping Arrangements:

Though officially 2 bedrooms, the layout is flexible, functional, and made with families in mind:
• The Forest Room- Primary Bedroom: King bed + optional full-size floor mattress (great for families with littles). Includes 2 usb ports per night stand, a sound machine with 40 sounds and night light option and a fan in the closet. Features peaceful forest views.
• The Lake Room- Bedroom 2: King bed + twin-over-twin bunks (sleeps 4 total). Ideal for kids, teens, or another couple. Also has usb ports, sound machine and fan. With Lake views— crack the window to listen to the loons while you sleep. Bunk beds are available for children only

For Babies and Kids:
• Pack ’n play (with quality mattress and sheets) available with advance request.
• Video baby monitor with 1000ft range for peace of mind.
• Sound machine and night lights in each room.
• Baby-friendly inflatable tub, and shelf space for your own things.
• Books, a few basic toys (magnetiles), board games
• High chair (convertible to booster) available with advance request

We know pets are family—and between the cost of boarding and the guilt of leaving them behind, it’s not always ideal. That’s why we’re happy to accommodate well-behaved dogs at Blue Heron Hideaway.

Our space is a great fit for furry companions:
• Plenty of distance between neighbors
• A large yard for off-leash play (under supervision)
• Easy, walk-in access to the lake for a swim or paddle

To ensure a comfortable stay for all guests, we ask that pet owners agree to a few simple rules before booking. A pet fee applies to cover additional cleaning.

A Few Notes:

We take great pride in maintaining a spotless and fully stocked space so your vacation is easy and relaxing from the moment you arrive. All beds are made with fresh linens (including a floor bed and pack-and-play, if needed), and each guest receives a full set of bath and beach towels. You’ll find the kitchen, bathrooms, and even outdoor areas cleaned and reset after every stay—whether or not guests leave things tidy.

Our check-in time is firm at 4:00 PM, and check-out is firm at 10:00 am, unless we’ve made other arrangements for you. We use the full turnover window to deliver a thorough and thoughtful reset of the entire property, including outdoor areas, shed organization, and even folded towels that match our boutique-level presentation standards. Thank you for respecting this time so we can continue delivering a five-star experience.

Property Features and Security
• The largest outbuilding (used for owner storage) and basement crawl space are not accessible to guests.
• For safety and property protection, the front of the property (facing the driveway) is monitored by an exterior security camera.
• There is one camera on the lakeside, which will always be turned off during your stay. No cameras will be monitoring the sides of the cabin, or any interior areas, ensuring full guest privacy.
